Ann,
Please don't think that all the quibbling on this forum means that the Savage needs alot of maintenance.... On the contrary, most of the Savage owners (past and present) that I talk to tell me that it is the most maintenance free bike they have EVER had!
I know that for me, I look at the bike as my baby, and I want it to be perfect, so I obsess over flaws (real or percieved) and I over-inflate the good points.... We probably all do to some extent (my bitching about sloppy welds, WD's complaints about lack of aftermarket accessories, everyone's endless gripes about the muffler and fuel flow) but I think most of the Savages (I think that is the correct term for a Savage rider) out there love their bike.
Anyway, this one is all going to come down to you. I'm a big fan of trying out different models of things (cars, shotguns, fishing rods, shoes, whatever....) and going with what I think is most comfortable. But you need to decide if you think that you'll "outgrow" the Savage (I'm 5'10" and 200 lbs, and I'm happy) mentally as you get back into riding. I got mine intending to upgrade in a couple years, but now I'm not so sure....
Good luck, let us know what you decide! And remember, this is supposed to be fun!
Whatever you do, KTRSD!
-Jim
